May 11        Batavia Lions Club’s Bridge-2-Bridge 5K/10K Run/Walk.

May 14        Bensenville Lions’ Fenton H.S. Athletic Award at Monty's Banquet Hall, $17 per person, dinner at 7 PM. Contact Lion Ron at 630-673-0584 for more info. The Scholarship Award will be presented on May 16th.

May 16-19  LIONS of ILLINOIS STATE CONVENTION at Clock Tower Hotel & Resort, 7801 East State Street, Rockford. Past International Pres. Lion Bill Biggs is the International Guest. All forms pertaining to the Convention are on the 1-J website under Conventions (left-hand column).

May 18        Save the date — SOMEONE SPECIAL at Drury Lane, Oakbrook Terrace. The play is “Suessical the Musical” and starts promptly at 10 AM. Invitations went out to “special kids” and their families at the beginning of March. If your club can help, call Chairperson Lion Shelly Lear at 630-876-9297 or email obtlions@yahoo.com.

May 19        Lions in the Park 5K Family Fun Walk/Run, hosted by the Aurora Noon Lions Club. Adult registration is $25 and children under 12 are $10 each. Register at signmeup.com, enter “lions” on the event search page — pre-registration is recommended. Event starts & ends at East Aurora High School, 500 Tomcat Lane, Aurora IL. Sign-in starts at 7 AM.

May 27        Crystal Lake Lions will be “parading” the BIG American Flag the club has at the Memorial Day Parade in town. Twenty Lions are needed to carry the flag. If you miss this appearance of the flag on the 27th, it will be in the Gala Parade over the 4th of July weekend.

May 29        Elburn Lions Club will be participating in a    Health & Wellness Fair at The Holmstead Retirement
Community in Batavia. The fair is open to the public and booths will be open from 10 AM to 2 PM. The
Elburn Lions Club is sponsoring a free eye screening with the Fair at the LIF Vision Screening Bus.

May 30-Jun 02     Roselle Lions’ 53rd Annual Rose Festival — there will be food vendors and entertainment, plus a Car Show on Saturday, June 1st.

Jun. 01       Sandwich Lions Club is having a Scrap Metal Drive today. Ask a Sandwich Lion for details.

Jun. 06       Bartlett Cost for a foursome of golfers is only $400.

Jun. 07-08  Roselle Lions’ Relay for Life at Lake Park High School East Campus.

Jun. 08       Batavia Lions Club’s Annual Guide Dog Golf Classic at the Fox Valley Golf Course, Route 25, Batavia. $90 per golfer buys 18 holes of challenging golf with a cart and a rewarding “Best Blind Drive Contest,” lunch on the course and a Steak Dinner at the Batavia Moose Lodge.  Proceeds will support the Guide Dog Foundation’s training and placement of a Guide Dog with a visually-impaired person.  Contacts:  Lion Dale Larson at 630-828-2657, Lion Don Murphy at 630-879-1056, Lion Lew Girmscheid at 630-879-2620, or Lion John Emerson at 630-761-1996.

Jun. 18       Hebron Lions Club will hold a Golf Outing at Oak Grove Golf Course, Harvard IL. Registration opens at 8 AM. Shot Gun Start at 9 AM. $85 will purchase 18 holes of golf, cart, and sandwich buffet. Hole sponsorships are available for $50. Contact Pres. Lion Chris Olson at 815-648-2382 or 815-378-2914. Proceeds will benefit Hebron Library.

Jun. 22       Cary Lions Club is sponsoring its 3rd Annual Cary Cares for Canines today from 1-3 PM at Lions Park, 1180 Silver Lake Rd. in Cary. (Rain Date—June 23rd) This event raises funds for vision & hearing needs in the community. Registration is free — enjoy educational presentations & exhibit booths offering ways to better care for your 4-legged best friend. For more info — visit www.carylions.org.

Jul. 07        Bartlett Lions Club’s Independence Day Parade will step off at 1 PM in downtown Bartlett.

Jul. 18        DISTRICT 1-J FISHING DERBY — Lake Shabbona State Park. Contact PDG Lion Ed Carter to help.

Jul. 25        LIONS DISTRICT 1-J GOLF OUTING — Hughes Creek, 1749 Spring Valley Drive, Elburn IL. $85 cost includes:  Cart & golf on a great course, lunch, and a steak dinner. Prizes for the longest drive on both front & back nines, closest to the pin on both nines, and more!  Shotgun start at 10 AM.  Scramble Format. Jul. 26        Bloomingdale Lions Club’s Golf Outing today at Bloomingdale Golf Club — details later!

Aug. 03       LIONS OF IL FOUNDATION 20TH ANNUAL GOLF OUTING at Railside Golf Club in Gibson City IL. All proceeds will be directed to LIF’s Low Vision Screening Program. Look for Registration and other forms relevant to the Gold Outing on www.lionsofillinoisfoundation.org under Forms. Think about having your club sponsor a hole — each hole allows for another child to be sponsored for a Low Vision Screening.

Aug. 09       Huntley Lions Club Golf Outing at Pinecrest Golf Club. Check-in at 9 AM / Shotgun Start at 10 AM.  Dinner following golf. $80 per person includes 18 holes plus cart, buffet dinner and prize raffles. (Dinner only — $20). Mail payment or call Lion Dave Boyer at 815-354-4269 by Aug. 2.

Aug. 13       LIONS OF IL FOUNDATION CANDY DAY JAMBOREE — at Gaslight Manor in Aurora IL

Aug. 17       Algonquin Lions are hosting the 4th Annual Charity Bean Bag Tournament at Buffalo Wild Wings, 461 Randall Road, Algonquin. Costs $30 per 2 person team. Team Check-in at 10:15 AM / 1st Game at 11 AM. Double Elimination Tournament. Proceeds to benefit the Ted Spella Education Award and the local Food Pantry. Call 847-458-2333 to register early.+
