Sep. 14-17              USA/CANADA LIONS LEADERSHIP FORUM at Lincoln, Nebraska – Targeting Young Lions this year with four seminar sessions presented by young Lions, but attendance is open to Lions of all ages. Lion Jay Blake will have his “Follow A Dream” Alcohol Funny Car in the Exhibit Hall during the whole Forum. Jay is the only blind crew chief in the sport of auto racing; he is the main mechanic and heads the Super Drag Racing Team. Get ready to share the “Paw.” Register online at www.lionsforum.org.

Sep. 16-17              Island Lake Lioness Club’s Annual Fall Plant & Book Sale at Island Foods from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Sep. 17                   Roselle Recycles from 8:30 AM to Noon at the Roselle Metra Stattion. Accepting paper shredding (4—5 boxes), electronic waste, thermometers, winter clothing, bicycles (working & non-working), books, gym shoes & sneakers (new and gently-worn), and Lions Club collectibles ( eyeglasses, hearing aids, printer ink cartridges, holiday lights, and keys.)  For more info, see www.roselle.il.us/RoselleRecycles.

Sep. 17                   Elmhurst Lions Club’s Vision Screening at Bensenville’s B-Well event from 8 AM to 2 PM. Volunteers are needed to work a couple of hours.

Sep. 20                  All-You-Can-Eat Pizza & Pasta Night Fundraiser, hosted by the Aurora Noon Lions Club from 5 to 7:30 PM at Luigi’s Pizza and Fun Center, 732 Prairie St. in Aurora.The menu will include pizza, pasta with meat sauce or meatless sauce, garden salad, jello with fruit and fruit punch. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 4-12Children 3 and under eat free.

Sep. 21                   Villa Park Lions’ Annual Golf Outing at Fox Run Golf Links in Elk Grove Village.

Sep. 23                  Westmont Lions Club is hosting the Kelly Miller Circus in town — details on tickets, etc. are on p. 2.

Sep. 24                  Sun City-Huntley Lions’ Annual Pancake Breakfast at the Huntley Fall Fest. Serving from 7 AM-11 AM at the Cosman Cultural Center Cafeteria on the NE side of the building at Deicke Park. Link sausages, applesauce, juice, coffee or mild, and all-you-can-eat pancakes. $6 for Adults, Kids under 12 (with a paying Adult) — Free. Tickets available at the door.

Sep. 25                   Look for Bloomingdale Lions at the “50 Men Who Cook” at the Hilton Indian Lakes Resort.

Sep. 28                  Sandwich Lions Club  is hosting the last of the summer Downtown Cruise Nights — Taste of Sandwich is on tonight, too.

Sep. 30                  TOMORROW IS THE LAST DAY to purchase a Peace Poster Contest Kit for Lions Clubs International. The kit is $11.95, plus shipping, handling and applicable taxes. The 2016-17 theme is “A Celebration of Peace.”

Oct. 01                    Fall Scrap Drive, sponsored by the Sandwich Lions Club, in front of the Gazebo in downtown Sandwich, starting at 8 AM until Noon.

Oct. 05                   Senior Health Day at Good Samaritan Hospital, Wellness Center. Westmont Lions will be staffing the LIF Hearing and Vision Screening Buses from 10 AM on.

Oct. 06                   Wheaton Lions’ 10th Annual Wine Festival at 102 E. Wesley Street, 2nd Floor, Wheaton. Enjoy a light dinner and sampling of a variety of wines. Cost is $25 for Lion and Spouse. Guests are free. An RSVP is appreciated. Email Scott Hallums at drhallumn@gmail.com.

Oct. 09                   Pearle Vision/Lions of Illinois Foundation 5K Run & Walk for Sight at Busse Woods, Elk Grove Village. Participant fee is $30 and includes a free T-Shirt. Oct. 22                   MD1 FALL RALLY AND 2017 CONVENTION KICKOFF at Embassy Suites, 100 Conference Center Dr., East Peoria, IL. Guests for the weekend will be International President Lion Bob Corlew and Lion Dianne. New this year is the Expo: Lions Gone Wild for Service. Reservation form is on the MD1 Lions website. Mail form by October 10, 2016.

Oct. 22                   McHenry Lions Club is celebrating its 50th Anniversary tonight at Route 31 North. The club was sponsored by the Island Lake Lions Club. It will be held at  31 North Banquet Hall , 217 N. Front Street , McHenry, IL 60050. Social Hour—5-6 PM; Sit-down Dinner from 6-7 PM; Speakers & Guests from 7-8 PM; Special Entertainment and Door Prizes from 8 to 9:30 PM; Dance to the music of the 60’s with DJ Pam Zac.  Cost is $40.00 per person .
