Lion Jim Graves
first join the
Sycamore, IL
Lions Club in
May 1974.
Served as
Chairperson of
Public
Relations, was
elected to be
third Vice
president in
1976, Second
Vice President
in 1977 and
President of the
club in 1978.
Chaired the club
Pumpkin Festival
committee and
served as the
club
representative
on the city wide
Pumpkin Festival
Committee.
He transferred
to the Carmel,
Indiana Lions
Club in 1983 and
to the Marion,
Indiana club in
1985. He
developed the
first club
directory for
the Marion Club
and became
second Vice
President in
1988 and
President of the
club in 1989.
Served as Zone
Chairman from
1990 – 1992 and
Region Chairman
1992 – 1993.
Served on the
State Lions
Cancer Control
Board for three
years and served
as Cabinet
Treasurer for
District 25-D in
1999 – 2000.
Lion Jim
received a
Melvin Jones
Award in 1995
and a W.P. Woods
Fellow Award
(First President
of Lions) in
1997. He
assisted the
Lions of Indiana
at the
International
Convention held
in
Indianapolis.
While in Marion,
Lion Jim chaired
several of the
club projects
including its
annual Fish and
Tenderloin Fry.
Lion Jim Retired
in 2001, moved
to Sun
City-Huntley and
along with Lion
Norb Jacob, a
long time friend
from the
Sycamore Lions
club chartered
the Sun
City-Huntley
Club. He Served
as Charter
President from
2001-2003 and
again as
president 2006 –
2007. Lion Jim
has received a
Lions of
Illinois
Foundation
Fellow Award in
2004, an
International
Presidents
Appreciation
Award from Dr.
Tae-Sup Lee in
2004 and the Jim
& Joyce Davis
Lifetime Service
Award in 2009.
Lion Jim is a
retired
Accountant and
has served as
the treasurer of
his church and
is currently
Treasurer of the
Church Trust
Fund
Committee.
