Lion Bob Fowler joined the Elgin Lions Club in 1997. He has held several positions including Tail Twister, Treasurer for two years, Secretary, First Vice President, President in 2002, Ex-Officio in 2003 and two year Director. He also has held many club committee assignments including Rose Day, Candy Day, Sight and Sound Sweepstakes, golf outing for eight years, used eye glass collection for seven years, eye glass program for seven years, and District 1-J bowling team formed since 2003.
In 2004, Lion Bob was appointed to LIF 1-J Coordinator Low Vision and Used Eye Glasses. This position was held until 2009, at which time he was appointed to District 1-J Zone Chairperson for the Fox River Region (2009 thru 2013). He also served as District 1-J Golf Co-Chair in 2008, Golf Chairperson from 2009 to 2012, District 1J Convention Schooling(2013) and Registration(2010 thru 2012) and State Convention Resolutions Sub-Committee(2012, 2013). Lions of Illinois Policy Manual Revision Committee (2013-2014), Held the position of 2nd (2013-2014) and 1st (2014-2015) Vice District Governor.
Among the many Lions awards he has received are: Treasurers Award, Lion of the Year 2001 and 2005, LIF Super Lion Award, President’s Excellence and Appreciation Award, Certificate of Appreciation Club Service 2004, Certificate of Appreciation International President Clement F. Kusiak 2005, Certificate of Service International President Ashok Mehta 2006, Sightfirst II Knight of Strength, Melvin Jones Fellow 2009 and LIF Foundation Fellow 2009, several Governors Appreciation Certificates and Jim and Joyce Davis Lifetime Service Award(2013) and awarded the LCI International Leadership Award by IP Joe Preston(2014-2015).
In addition, Lion Bob has attended the USA/Canada Forum in Peoria, has had Club 100% attendance since 2000, LCIF contributing member since 2000, Advanced Lions Leadership Institute Training in 2014 and for 10 years sold ten or more books for Sight and Sound Sweepstakes each year.
Lion Bob was a Big Brother with the Big Brother/Big Sister Organization for five years. He is currently retired from the Engineering Field of mechanical and structural steel. He married Lion Pam Palmer of the Sun-City Huntley Lions Club on March 21, 2015 and is very close to his family.
