Lion Chris Halsey - Elburn Lions

Lion Chris Halsey joined the Elburn Lions Club in 1996. In 1997 he was elected to the board of directors. Lion Chris has served as head of security for Elburn Lions Security from 1999 until 2010. He organized the Elburn Lions Motorcycle Ride in 1999, and served as chairman for 10 years. In 2000-2001 Lion Chris served as president of the Elburn Lions Club. Lion Chris received the Distinguished Service Award from his club in 1999. Lion Chris received the Lion of the Year Award for the Southwest Region in 2001. He was appointed to the Dist. 1-J Cabinet in 2002. Lion Chris received the Governor's Appreciation Award in 2003. Lion Chris served as Retention chair in 2002 and Membership chair in 2004. He became a Melvin Jones Fellow in 2003, and in 2004 became a Certified Guiding Lion. In 2004 Lion Chris received the International President's Leadership Award. He was appointed MD-1 Retention Chairperson in 2005. Lion Chris was appointed Zone 2 Chairperson for the Southwest Region in 2005. In 2007-2008, Lion Chris was zone chairperson for Zone 1 and Zone 2, and received the Jim and Joyce Davis Lifetime Service Award in 2008. Lion Chris received a Melvin Jones Progressive Fellow in 2010. Lion Chris has served as a zone chairperson in the Southwest Region for 7 years. He was a district leader for Campaign SightFirst II with 100% club participation in the Southwest Region. Lion Chris organized weekly Bingo at the Elburn Lions clubhouse to raise funds for CSFII, and has remained a weekly event. Along with chairing bingo, Lion Chris also chairs the 4th Tuesday free community spaghetti dinner In memory of his son, Lion Chris organized the annual Lance Halsey Memorial Ride to Camp Lions in 2006 and continues today. Lion Chris was elected to serve as 2nd Vice District Governor for the 2012-2013 Lion year. Lion Chris also serves on the MD-1 redistricting committee.

 


Lion Chris was Elburn Days Chairperson in 2000 and 2001. He has attended numerous MD-1 Forums and was a presenter. Lion Chris addressed the Lions International Board of Directors on the topic of the Very Big Yellow Envelope. He was the front door greeter for the 2007 International Convention tours at Lions Headquarters in Oakbrook. Lion Chris attended the International Convention in Boston and the USA/Canada Forum in Peoria where he served as a guide. Lion Chris has volunteered for Ski-For-Sight, the Southwest Region's Fishing Derby, and many other projects.


Together, Lion Chris and Lion Cindy have 4 children and 12 grandchildren.
